North Asheville Attractions, Restaurants, and Things to do
Merrimon Ave, the corridor to many of the North Asheville neighborhoods, runs from the Beaver Lake area to downtown Asheville as Broadway Street. Merrimon Ave is the access point to top restaurants and cafes, such as Luella’s Bar-B-Q, Vinnie’s Neighborhood Italian, Homegrown, Geraldine’s Bakery, PennyCup Cafe,and of course, Asheville Pizza and Brewing with its affordable movies paired with creative slices of pizza and local craft beer. Along the Merrimon corridor, green spaces are not in short supply despite the bustling activity. Kids of all ages will enjoy Weaver Park with its walking trail, playground, creek, baseball field, tennis courts, and giant sandbox, which is usually stocked with community toys. From Weaver Park, bikers and walkers can enjoy the stretch of Glenn’s Creek Greenway, which runs from Weaver Park, across Merrimon Ave, and beside UNCA Asheville before connecting to the Reed Creek Greenway, which leads towards downtown and borders the popular Montford neighborhood. Further north, Lake View Park and Beaver Dam residents have easy access to the 8-acre wetland, Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary, which neighbors the walkable and scenic Beaver Lake. Managed by the Blue Ridge Audubon Society, it is a popular spot for birdwatching and features a boardwalk through the wetlands.
