The Riceville Valley: Rural Peace, City Proximity

Riceville Neighborhood Spotlight
Winding roads from Black Mountain, Swannanoa, and through the pastoral agricultural setting which encircles the Warren Wilson College campus lead to a region known as the Riceville community, which is situated between Swannanoa, the Haw Creek neighborhood, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, which makes up Riceville’s northern border. The community amounts to a large portion of the East Asheville area and evokes the feel of a rural countryside.
Many homes in this community include acreage, pasture land, or at least a spacious backyard for residents to call their own. Riceville’s appeal is largely due to its scenic and peaceful location, some areas of which include mountain views, rolling hills, and creeks that run through properties. However, Riceville is also situated right beside the Tunnel Road corridor, which leads to downtown Asheville’s shops, restaurants, nightlife, and a variety of activities. Riceville And Blue Ridge Parkway + Folk Art Center Access
It may go without saying that the Blue Ridge Parkway’s proximity to Riceville is an attractive element of life in the community, as the Folk Art Center and Southern Highland Craft Guild (which is also the location of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Visitor Center) sit within the Riceville community and on Tunnel Road at Milepost 382. The Mountains-to-Sea Trail is accessible from the parking lot of the Folk Art Center.
North of Riceville, Craven Gap Trail, Rattlesnake Lodge, Bull Gap, and Haw Creek Overlook are all notable areas for hikers along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Those who find adventure by scenic drive can travel the Blue Ridge Parkway for amazing views and overlooks. Commuters can also easily access the Town Mountain neighborhood from this section of Parkway and eventually take the winding roads into the bustle of downtown Asheville.
Directly from Riceville Road in Asheville, hikers of the community (and beyond) enjoy the woodland trails of Warren Wilson College, which include Big Berea Trail, The River Trail, and Dam Pasture Trail. The trail system winds alongside Jones Mountain and through pasture land, woodlands, and alongside Bull Creek, Berea Creek, and the Swannanoa River.

Convenience to Asheville
The section of Tunnel Road that joins Riceville’s southern section and Riceville Road in Asheville is within a short distance of the Asheville Mall, Walmart, Whole Foods, and a variety of recognizable chain restaurants. Locally owned restaurants, cafes, and breweries such as Highland Brewing, The Hound, Rendezvous, and Copper Crown are also nearby. Tunnel Road eventually merges into College Street, a primary road through downtown Asheville and its bustling arts, music, food, and drink culture—not to mention the variety of shops and endless entertainment opportunities.
