While the town of Riceville is associated with the larger Swannanoa Valley, it actually lies within its own distinct valley, Bull Creek. The historic Bull Creek Valley can be traced back to the last wild bison in WNC that was shot in 1799 by Joseph Marion Rice, the namesake of Riceville.
