Golf Course &
Park
The Beverly Hills neighborhood is centered around the public Asheville Municipal Golf Course, designed in 1927 by distinguished architect Donald Ross. The 18-hole golf course is one of the oldest courses in Western North Carolina and is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While it’s well known for its challenging yet enjoyable course design, its most enduring distinction is its legacy as the first integrated public golf course in the Southeast. Founded in 1959, the Skyview Golf Association holds an annual Skyview Open Tournament there, and it boasts the title of the longest-running Black-owned golf tournament in the U.S.
Once considered “Asheville’s Playground,” the historic Asheville Recreation Park, adjacent to the Beverly Hills neighborhood, opened in 1922 and featured a municipal pool, a dance hall, boating on Lake Craig, carnival rides, a skating rink, a zoo, a miniature train, a playground, and more before closing during WWII. Its zoo was the origin story for the beloved WNC Nature Center, a trailblazer in showcasing native Appalachian wildlife species.
The revitalized nature center opened in 1977 as a separate entity from Recreation Park, which today is home to Gashes Creek Pool, soccer fields, and trails along the Swannanoa River. Other nearby parks include Azalea Park & Dog Park and Ann Patton Joyce Park, which lies within the bounds of the Beverly Hills neighborhood. Please note that all three parks are temporarily closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene.
Homes &
Price Ranges
In the Beverly Hills neighborhood of East Asheville, the median listing price of homes for sale is around $408K, but the price range for active listings spans anywhere from $55K to over $1M. Primarily built between the 1920s and 1960s, the homes within this neighborhood are often modest in size (typically 2-3 bedrooms and 1-2 bathrooms) and reasonably priced given their proximity to downtown Asheville and the city’s municipal golf course. Not to mention, utterly charming with their cozy porches and tapered columns hearkening back to a time long since past.
