Haw Creek: Asheville's Favorite Hidden Valley
Haw Creek Neighborhood Spotlight
The checklist is not uncommon. You want proximity to the restaurants, breweries, and a lively arts culture in downtown Asheville, while also having your own piece of Asheville real estate where you can lay down roots and grow (literally and figuratively) with room for a garden or a backyard for kids and your furry friends to run and play. In Haw Creek of Asheville NC, that dream is closer to reality. The Haw Creek Valley, located in East Asheville, sits alongside Tunnel Road with the southern boundary extending to the I-240 interchange, a direct shot to downtown Asheville. Experiencing the quiet mountain convenience of this valley community is a key part of our Ultimate 2026 Guide to Living in East Asheville.
Haw Creek Neighborhood History & Proximity to Asheville

Haw Creek is a neighborhood saddled to the mountainside—surrounded by Piney Mountain, Bear Mountain Ridge, Town Mountain, and the Blue Ridge Parkway on three sides, and then convenient access to the main thoroughfare into Asheville on its southern border. The neighborhood, which was originally a farming community dating back to the 1700s, is home to over 2,500 households. With a notable housing stock, the number of homes for sale in Haw Creek is often steady. With two main entry points at Beverly Road and Crockett Ave, Haw Creek offers a bit more privacy than some other Asheville neighborhoods and lower through-traffic volume. The Beverly Road entrance is a block over from the newly built (circa 2021) East Asheville Library, which is the first LEED-certified building constructed by Buncombe County. In addition to its impressive book collection, the East Asheville Library playground and basketball court are also notable amenities.
Neighborhood Parks, Restaurants, and More
The community association appropriately tags Haw Creek as being the “Country in the City.” However, it also boasts some of its own conveniences and tastes of Asheville flavor. For example, Evergreen Community Charter School and Haw Creek Elementary School are located within the valley. Along with these two notable schools is Charlie Bullman Park, inclusive of six acres and three fields. East Asheville Recreation Club, Haw Creek Valley’s private community pool and tennis court, sits between Evergreen Community School and Charlie Bullman Park. Just down the road is the six-acre Haw Creek Park with a picnic shelter and unpaved trails. A quick 1.5-mile drive north will bring you to Masters Park, which includes a hiking trail that connects Haw Creek to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Scenic drives and walking trails are never too far in beautiful Haw Creek!
Haw Creek Food and Drink
Haw Creek also has its own quaint coffee shop—Penny Cup Coffee’s Haw Creek location. The coffee shop neighbors the Creekside Taphouse, a casual restaurant with a patio overlooking Haw Creek, a kids’ playground, and happy hour-style food and drinks. The Whale Outpost, a craft beer bar and bottleshop, is within walking distance of Creekside Taphouse and Penny Cup, and is a great spot to grab a beer or cider or explore their selection of unique bottled beers and wines. In addition to these popular neighborhood haunts, Haw Creek is also home to the French-inspired restaurant Rendezvous, an upscale yet approachable sister restaurant to the now-closed downtown Asheville staple, Bouchon—both from French-born chef Michel Baudouin. A quick drive from Haw Creek to Fairview Road region provides easy access to the East Asheville craft beer scene and Highland Brewing.
