About
Swannanoa NC
One of the earliest settled regions in Western North Carolina, the Swannanoa River Valley was established as an agricultural community in the 1700s-1800s. A major aspect of Swannanoa's history is the Beacon Manufacturing Company, which was a huge local employer that shaped the community for decades beginning in the 1900s. Swannanoa's industrial era gave way to mill villages and working-class neighborhoods, which ultimately included some of the historic neighborhoods that still exist today, such as Bee Tree Village, Beacon Village, Grovemont, and Buckeye Cove. Newer Swannanoa real estate developments like High Hickory enable residents to live at high elevations and enjoy beautiful views of the Swannanoa Valley below.
