There are so many great hiking trails around Black Mountain it can be hard to choose just one. Here are some of our favorite hikes near Black Mountain and Asheville:
Mount Mitchell Trail
Highest peak east of Rocky Mountains. Mount Mitchell State Park is located an hour drive or 8 miles as the crow flies from Black Mountain. This is a relatively difficult, 11-mile hike up the tallest mountain in the eastern United States. This hike is recommended for experienced hikers because of its length and sometimes, very steep sections.
Chimney Rock Park Trails
The trails at Chimney Rock Park are very popular among people of all ages. Most trails are under 1-mile round trip, with the longest being 1.5 miles. The Hickory Nut Falls trail brings you to the bottom of a 400 ft waterfall with amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
Craggy Gardens Trail
Craggy Gardens Trail is great for walkers or runners looking for a 2.0 mile loop with gorgeous views. This trail is perfect for children because it is easily accessible and very moderate.
Big Piney Ridge Loop Trail
This trail is 4.1 miles long and considered difficult because its steep pitch. The Big Piney Ridge Trail has amazing views of surrounding ridgelines and lakes.
Grandfather Mountain
Be inspired by views from the Mile High Swinging Bridge, stand head and shoulders above the surrounding region, be awe struck by 360-degree views of mountain ridge after mountain ridge retreating to the horizon in the nature preserve with over 12 miles of Alpine hiking trails.
