Marion, North Carolina is a growing community at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 35 minutes from Asheville. Marion features a scenic Main Street lined with historic buildings and boasts the motto: “Where Main Street Meets the Mountains." Marion is located east of Old Fort and west of Morganton, NC. The town is notably larger than Old Fort with a population total over 7,000 and has a variety of restaurants, diners, grocery stores, and shops -- while still maintaining an authentic small town feel. Restaurants such as Crabby Abby's Seafood Restaurant and Burrito Bros and Mica Town Brewing are long-time staples of the community. Marion has a true "small town" feel with activities such as a movie theater, skating rink, bowling alley and a greenway that runs through the town, the Catawba River Greenway.
For other water-based activities, Lake James western side is in Marion and is very popular for boating, fishing, swimming and other outdoor activities such as mountain biking and hiking at Lake James State Park or the Fonta Flora Trail.
