We have loved this house! We purchased the house just after our son began his sophomore year at the Ashville School, after years of looking for the right house in Montreat. It became a weekend gathering place for our family, and a special retreat for our son and daughter and their friends during their years at Davidson College. Our house has also provided a wonderful spot for many youth groups attending summer camps at the Montreal Conference Center. We have an autograph book filled with heartwarming stories from most every group that has found refuge in our home. Great neighbors, too, with half lot ownership beside the house so no building can take place there. Our daughter now has her own house in Montreat and we are getting older and have decided to downsize for our retirement years. We will truly miss our first mountain home, but will take our warm memories with us.
This past week, my wife and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at Black Mountain...we stayed at Maison Reve from 10-14 October and had an absolutely wonderful time. Our mountain chateau was very warm and inviting (not to mention rustic) and looked even better in person than on the web site. The local restaurants were incredible with places such as The Artisan, Que Sara, The Blue Ridge Biscuit Company, and My Father's Pizza and Pasta at the top of the list. Local shops were also very interesting, and the people were beyond friendly everywhere we went. I wanted to especially mention the Greybeard staff, Liz Johnson, and Caleb Hofheins who were all very helpful with arranging this special visit for us. My wife loved the flowers, the rose petals, the goodies from Kilwins, and the chilled bottle of Moscato waiting for us in the refrigerator. All of this made Maison Reve even more romantic and appropriate for the occasion. We've spent a lot of time in North Carolina, mostly along the eastern coast, but never in the mountains. This was our first trip to Black Mountain, and we're already looking forward to coming back. Thank you to everyone who made our stay a memorable one...we had a great time...!!
We have been using Greybeard Rental’s property management services for many years and always have been delighted with their services. Our Montreat house was one of the first to be managed by Greybeard. We signed on with Greybeard after handling our own vacation rentals for over ten years, and after having bad experiences with other property managers. I remember one manager charging us a fee for “inspecting” our house one November Sunday afternoon when, in fact, she had been out on a walk and happened to pass by our house. Here are some of the things we like about Greybeard: • Cutting edge vacation property marketing. In these days of web-based marketing and sites like VRBO and Tripadvisor, it is increasingly difficult for an individual property owner to find renters. • On-site, 24/7 emergency help for vacation renters. When a toilet overflows or an appliance breaks down, the renters can call Greybeard instead of trying to contact us, and Greybeard can handle the problem immediately. During the years that we handled our own rentals, it often was difficult to find a plumber or electrician to handle an emergency. • Regular property maintenance and cleaning. It’s a luxury for us, as owners, to come in for a week or weekend of personal use and know that the house will be clean and everything in order. ?• Careful accounting of all rental receipts and expenses. Over the course of a rental season, Greybeard rentals inevitably will need to purchase replacement mattress covers or perhaps handle an appliance repair or replacement. They always have provided accurate, monthly accounting for all receipts and expenditures. They have our utmost confidence.
Greybeard Rentals sets the gold standard for customer service. Every call and email is promptly answered. The staff is friendly, courteous, helpful and efficient. Jean and Morgan take care of our homes in Montreat as if they were their own. If there is a problem at 10 pm on a Saturday night, they are there. We sleep better in Texas knowing that they are taking care of our homes in Montreat. We couldn’t do it without them and highly recommend them. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and great communication skills are traits that make them fantastic partners for us.
I would highly recommend Second Home Care. Jean and Morgan have been incredibly attentive and proactive in caring for our cabin in Montreat. Our associate minister and his wife spent time at our cabin and Morgan delivered a gift and stocked our refrigerator for their arrival. All we have to do is call or email when we are arriving and they have the heat or air turned on and the lights on as well. They regularly check on the home and specifically caught a water leak due to frozen water pipes, got it repaired and then continued to check our home for further problems. Most recently, Jean noticed a smell and realized our refrigerator had failed. I just ordered the refrigerator replacement and Jean has offered to meet them and accept delivery. It has made our investment a very enjoyable and special place as we just come and relax and do not have to spend the weekend working and repairing. Well worth the investment!!!
Jean David is intelligent, personable and professional. My wife and I have moved often and worked with many real estate agents over the past thirty years. We both agree that Jean was our favorite. We love the little town of Black Mountain and decided it would be a great place to move to when we got ready to retire. We were looking for a home that we could age in place in and decided that we might want to build our own home to incorporate all those ideas. If you've ever tried to look for land on-line you know how challenging that can be. Chip Craig was the perfect resource for helping us. He listened to what we said we wanted and lined up a variety of lots to start looking at. When we found houses we thought might work he was helpful with that too. He was quick to get back to us when we had questions, checked out the ideas we found on-line and could tell us just how far out of town it would be. So if you're looking for the local expert, Chip is the best.
