Fairview, a comfortable community located some 11 miles southeast of Asheville, possesses a rural, small-town feel while still offering proximity to Asheville and Black Mountain. With a population of just under 3,000 people, this town was settled in the late 18th century and briefly known as Cane Creek. Cane Creek Baptist Church, established in 1806, continues to meet and is one of the oldest churches in Buncombe County. Fairview is less than 10 miles from Black Mountain and is part of the Asheville Metropolitan statistical area.
To appreciate the special qualities of this community, consider travelling along Interstate 74A and visiting some of its homegrown locales. The Local Joint, which received a Trip Advisor certificate of excellence for 2013, has special fare and a cozy ambience. Flying Cloud Farm offers fresh fruits and vegetables in season. And the farm’s name was inspired by the stage coach that travelled down the same roadway in the mid-1800s.
