Organized in 1897, Montreat is nestled at the foot of Greybeard Mountain east of Asheville. The town has a variety of cabins and homes with unique mountain charm. In addition to a conference center and amenities such as tennis courts, a mountain swimming pool, and the beautiful Lake Susan, the town is also home to Montreat College, which was founded in 1916. Over 35,000 people attend conferences at Montreat each year. The town is surrounded by thousands of acres of conservation easement, with the only access into that land being a vast network of hiking trails. From Montreat, you can hike all the way to Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the Eastern United States.
