Day Hike
Skill Level: Easy, Moderate, And Strenuous
Time : 5-6 hours
Depending on the difficulty that we determine is the best fit for you, we will choose a hike that will show off Western Carolina’s true colors! Your hike may include bagging one of the peaks in the Seven Sisters looming above Black Mountain, wiping the mist off your brow from one of the esteemed waterfalls in the Pisgah National Forrest, or walking through the birthplace of the National forest in the Cradle of Forestry.
Fly fishing
Skill Level: Easy, Moderate
Time : 5-6 hours
Western North Carolina is a premier destination for fly fishing! October to the first Saturday in June is the delayed-harvest season. This opens up great trout streams for catch-and-release fishing using flies and artificial lures with one hook. This includes some of the North Carolina’s prized trout waters! The rest of the season is Hatchery supported.
Depending on your goals and skill level, we will find the best waters for you! Rivers could include the Tuckaseegee, Curtis Creek, and many other mountain streams.
Mountain bike
Skill Level: Easy, Moderate, Strenuous
Time: 5-6 hours
Singletrac, forest service fir roads, stunning vistas, and epic downhills. Ranging from the rocky climbs of Montreat, the screaming downhill of Katsuma, and the legendary trails of Tsali. Western Carolina is the place to be on a mountain bike.
Rock climbing
Skill Level: Easy, Moderate, Expert
Time: 5-6 hours
North Carolina is known for some of the best climbing in the southeast. Of the many notable climbing areas such as Linville Gorge or Stone Mountain, Perhaps the most recognized is Looking Glass. "The Glass" is known as a huge granite dome covered with horizontal eye-brow shaped cracks throughout it's face. For the beginner, we will focus on rock climbing fundamentals such as belaying, climbing knots, top rope climbing, and movement on the rock. The expert may have the opportunity for a multi-pitch climb. This will be ideal for both the seasoned climber that is hoping to grow in skill and ability and for the novice putting on a harness and touching the rock for the first time
Western Carolina Rivers and lakes by canoe
North Carolina Rivers draw paddlers from all over the country. It is also the home of the U.S. national white water center. There is something for everyone, from pristine scenic river ways meandering through the ancient Appalachians, to steep creeks that will surpass the thrill of any amusement park. We will be begin paddling on flat water such as lake lure, lake James and section IV of the French Broad learning and perfecting our paddle craft. Moderate to expert paddlers may have the opportunity to brave class II and maybe even III white water. We will spend time on rivers such as the Green, the French Broad, and the Tuckaseegee, the same rivers that our country's best paddlers have mastered this craft.
